Description
MakiwaraThe makiwara is a wooden striking-post used in Okinawan and Japanese martial arts to train striking techniques.
The makiwara is not a wooden heavy bag.
I cannot emphasize that enough. The makiwara is like a good honing stone. It requires time and repetition. And most importantly it requires skill in operating it. But if you take the time to develop that skill then the results you can achieve are nothing short of astounding.
The only real problem with the makiwara is where and how to mount them. The first makiwara were half buried in practitioners’ yards. Unfortunately, that is problematic if you don’t live on a subtropical island like Okinawa. This makiwara is designed to mount to a base, available separately.
This listing is for the post only. It does not include the base or the pad.
The striking post is made of 3.5" (9cm) douglas fir
and tapers from 3” (7.6cm) at the base to ¾” (2cm) at the top.
In the box:
48” (1.2m) douglas fir striking post
One last DISCLAIMER: Do not use a makiwara without the experience or supervision to keep you safe. If you do injure yourself stop using the makiwara until you are fully healed. If you are under 18 years old do not strike the makiwara with full power.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
